- Halo braids tutorial
The half-up halo braid is a gorgeous boho chic style that is as charming as it is versatile. Perfect for everyday wear as well as for special occasions, the half-up halo braid will elevate your look to goddess level in minutes.
“This style,” says expert stylist Justine Marjan, “is a great way to achieve a professional hair look at home. Versatile for different hair lengths, it’s easy to recreate and the perfect hair upgrade for jumping on a video call!”
We totally agree. So, whether you’re headed to a friend’s backyard or fielding Zoom calls, let’s go ahead and learn how to do halo braids that look simply divine.

Step 1
Start by washing and blow-drying your hair. As we’ll be adding waves and texture to your style later on, opt for a shampoo and conditioner designed to enhance natural waves, such as TRESemmé Effortless Waves Shampoo and TRESemmé Flawless Curls Conditioner with Coconut Oil.
As always, before blow-drying, be sure to grab your heat protection spray. We recommend TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Heat Defense Spray, which is designed to nourish hair while protecting it from heat.
Step 2
Once your hair’s dry, it’s time to get styling. Give your hair a spritz of TRESemmé Thermal Creations Protective Spray Heat Tamer, which is designed for use on both wet and dry hair, before you unleash the curling wand.
Using a one-inch curling wand, wrap small sections of hair around the wand for a few seconds and then release. Avoid touching each new wave until it’s cooled so that the style can set in place. Alternate the direction of the waves as you go, for a more natural look.
Once cool, run your fingers through your hair to break up the waves.
Step 3
Now it’s time to do your halo braid!
Gather a piece of hair to one side of the part and split into three sections. Create a reverse French braid, only adding hair from the top area above the braid. Keep braiding towards the back of your head, fasten with a clear hair tie, then repeat on the other side.
Step 4
You will now have two braids on each side. Wrap them around the back of your head to create the halo look, tuck in the ends and fasten with bobby pins.
A halo braid looks best when it’s slightly messy. Use your fingers to loosen and tousle your braids here and there, which makes them look more natural and the style more impactful.
Step 5
Finally, seal your style with TRESemmé Flawless Curls Flexible Hold Hairspray with Coconut Oil to keep your braids and waves looking their best all day long. And as a bonus, the coconut oil not only moisturizes your tresses, but will also leave you with the subtle scent of tropical paradise wherever you go.
